People don't like to talk about death, but....

We are all going. Every one of us.
If you could choose, and we are not all afforded the luxury, but if you could...would there be a big party? Do you want to get one last trip in to a cherished place, finish a quilt or a wood carving for a loved one? How do you want the environment to be? Do you want soft music to fill your space or all the neighbours to come over with their instruments? Perhaps you want quiet, nothing but the birds chirping. Do you need help navigating some delicate or difficult conversations. Do you need to be sure you can get to your studio to keep creating as long as you can. What ceremony do you want: poetry, puja, prayer... ? Or do you simply want stillness, quiet.
There is only so much choice we have when we reach this transition, but we do have some, and making those choices consciously, can mitigate some of the undeniable challenges. Sometimes it helps to have someone to talk to as you make your way through, to think about the possibilities, help problem solve the more practical things like, how to make the house more accessible to stay there longer, and also to have the healing conversations about fear, anger, grief and whatever comes to the surface for you.
Sometimes it is just helpful to have someone who is not afraid to talk about it, to have a safe place to feel scared or angry, relieved or whatever you are feeling. Finding ways to be with your feelings as they arise and then fall away, shifting into something else, is important.
